URINETOWN The Musical

This poster design was created for Mercyhurst University's performance Urinetown: The Musical. The show is a satirical comedy musical that pokes fun at everything from capitalism, social irresponsibility, and the legal system.
The challenge here was to create a design that showcased the grandiose and ridiculous scenes that highlighted the story. Based on the client's recommendations, the concept called for a WPA-inspired visual style that is expressed in the iconic imagery of the main characters of the poster. The colors are purposefully meant to elicit a comedic response that harkens back to the show's title while the typography, with its art deco-style, helps to further the lighthearted mood that is perpetuated throughout the performance.
